Amazon starts car research and review site

Amazon.com is pushing deeper into the auto industry and car-parts market with a new website featuring reviews, images and specifications on thousands of new and classic vehicle models. And he notes Amazon says 35 million customers, or 11% of its shoppers, have "parked" their vehicle in a virtual "garage" on Amazon. But it could also help solidify Amazon's place as the search engine for shopping (much more than Google's own Google Shopping today), ensuring that customers start thinking about a purchase at Amazon first, even in the rare case the company doesn't sell the item.

Amazon's vehicle detail pages have sections that break down "model changes", "model strengths" and "model value".

Amazon Vehicles could also be a wonderful way for the company to encourage visitors to go to Amazon Automative, which sells items related to cars, like replacement parts, tools, tires, accessories, and several others.

Earlier this week, Amazon partnered with Hyundai to let potential customers schedule test drives from the retailer's website.

"Our goal is to support customers during one of the most important, research-intensive purchases in their lives by helping them make informed decisions every step of the way", said Adam Goetsch, Amazon director of automotive, in the company's announcement.

25, 2016- Amazon today announced Amazon Vehicles, a auto research destination and automotive community that makes it easy for customers to get the information they need when shopping for vehicles, parts, and accessories.

Amazon is gearing up its vehicle knowledge.

Online auction and shopping site eBay also has acquired an automotive domain.

Asked if vehicle sales could be coming to the site in the future, an Amazon spokeswoman responded with the company's typical line: "We have nothing more to share at this time".

The world of consumer-sourced auto reviews and automotive information has a new player with a well-known name.

To us, this new service sounds like a bit like what it would be if Amazon made its own version of Edmunds or Cars.com-just without the professional review content. "They're shorter, they're more precise and they make sense".
