US Open 2016: Angelique Kerber beats Karolina Pliskova in final

Angelique Kerber will face off against Karolina Pliskova in the 2016 U.S. Open women's final on Saturday, when a new champion will be crowned at Flushing Meadows following a whirlwind fortnight in NY.

While it's a total bummer that Serena Williams didn't make it into the U.S. Open women's final, we'll still be treated to an awesome match between Karolina Pliskova and Angelique Kerber. In the meantime here's his match report from Pliskova's semi-final upset of Serena Williams.

She faced Pliskova in the finals of those Masters, and Pliskova came out on top with a dominant straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-1. I know how she is playing. Not to mention, Serena and Angelique in the finals would have given us yet another awesome Grand Slam matchup, as they met at the Australian Open and Wimbledon finals in 2016, the latter of which gave Serena her 22nd Grand Slam victory, tying the record of legend Steffi Graf, 47. Kerber last won on the hard courts at Stanford in 2015, but Pliskova actually owns the more recent win, and it came on a big stage.

"I remember the Cincinnati final". "Here I have one day off so I can really prepare for the final against Pliskova".

Murray and Soares, who won the first Grand Slam they played together at the Australian Open in January, knocked off defending champions Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert to reach the final.

"I think I will go out there trying to get my next chance against her and take the revenge of course".

The tall Czech settled down, finding the range on her big serve.

Saturday's match is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET from Arthur Ashe Stadium.
