Longtime aide Huma Abedin like 'second daughter' to Clinton

Huma Abedin, a senior aide to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, is leaving former politician Anthony Weiner after several sexting scandals. "I know Anthony Weiner well, and she will be far better off without him", Trump said in a statement. Few major decisions in the campaign are made without Abedin's input, and she remains an important back-channel in the Clinton orbit of friends, political allies and donors.

It quoted from months worth of tweets Weiner sent to "a 40-something divorcee" that were filled with sexual innuendo and photos of himself in his underwear, including one taken with his young son lying on the bed next to him.

The marital split spilled into the presidential campaign, with Trump seizing on it to accuse Clinton of "bad judgment".

Weiner, a Democratic congressman from NY, gains national attention for an impassioned speech on the House floor about health care for 9/11 emergency responders.

In a report published on Monday (Aug 29), The Post said: "While Abedin travels the country campaigning for Democratic presidential candidate Clinton, the ex-congressman was exchanging lewd and sexually explicit texts and photographs with an unidentified woman previous year".

Weiner resigned from his seat as representative for New York's 9th Congressional District in 2011 after reports surfaced that he had sent women explicit messages and photos online. At that time, he and Abedin had been married about a year, and she stood by her man through the sex scandal, which was followed by another episode of electile dysfunction amid Weiner's campaign to become the mayor of New York City. The story for the magazine's high-profile September issue, which Abedin agreed to be interviewed for, came at a time when others in the campaign already wanted less attention on her, not more.

But an explicit photo was leaked through the Twitter account of a listener of the The Opie & Anthony Show, Weiner announced on June 16, 2011, that he would resign from Congress, and he formally did so on June 21.

The New York Post was the first to report the latest allegations, in a story that ran on Sunday. It was the final straw on the marriage and today Abedin released a statement saying she would separate from Weiner.

Abedin announced Monday she was separating from her husband, Anthony Weiner, after another sexting incident involving the former NY congressman.

Abedin first worked for Clinton in the 1990s as an intern when Clinton was first lady.

Weiner lost his job and now potentially his marriage after repeatedly getting caught sending suggestive messages to women on Twitter.

She insisted to the "Post" that the pair, who continued to send messages until earlier in August, had never met, although he had asked her several times to come to NY.

Abedin is in the midst of a political scandal herself, albeit of a more traditional nature. The sources said she did not know about it or details of the latest sexting exchange until this weekend.

Abedin's and Weiner's relationship has been strained since his second round of publicly revealed sexting sunk his mayoral bid in 2013.
