With the regular season starting on Wednesday, . He's worthy of a first-round selection in most fantasy formats.
Even after winning the Hobey Baker as the nation's best college hockey player in 2014, critics doubted Gaudreau's ability to play at the NHL level due to his size - he's listed at just 5'9, 157 lbs.
The Flames are being picked by many to return to the playoffs this season, and Gaudreau is a key part of the team's future.
Gaudreau's new deal is similar to the one signed earlier by linemate Sean Monahan, which was a seven-year contract with an average annual salary cap hit of $6.3 million.
The negotiations between the Calgary Flames and Johnny Gaudreau have been long and painful for both sides.

While another year or two would be ideal the Flames certainly have to be thrilled with this deal. They didn't want to pay Gaudreau more than their captain Mark Giordano.
Gaudreau, 23, was not eligible to be courted with an offer sheet and he also did not hold any arbitration rights.
Instead, the scrappy first line anchor chose to play.
Gaudreau has proved his doubters wrong, showing that he can contribute in the same ways at the National Hockey League level as he did in the NCAA while also remaining essentially injury-free.
