Today the Philadelphia Eagles traded Eric Rowe to the New England Patriots for offensive lineman Josh Kline and a conditional fourth-round draft pick.
On the Eagles' depth chart, released Tuesday before the trade was made, Rowe was listed as the third-string cornerback, behind starter Leodis McKelvin and seventh-round draft pick Jalen Mills.
The former Utah product showed potential in college, which is why the Eagles felt comfortable taking him in the second round.
More news: This Mercedes-Benz van will carry a fleet of delivery robotsRowe played in 16 games with five starts as a rookie last season and finished with 25 tackles and one interception.
The draft pick the Eagles will receive is the Patriots' fourth-round selection in 2018. The next season in New England, Blount ran for almost 800 yards and seven touchdowns. Rowe, the new regime felt, was good at going straight downfield and at playing zone, not good in changing direction in the "man" coverage Schwartz preferred.
Kline appeared in 14 games-starting 13-for the Pats in 2015 and saw action at both left and right guard. But the Eagles already had 11 offensive linemen before the trade. Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz will be starting the season, and he's already suffered a broken rib from poor protection this preseason.
Asked if a player should get more of an opportunity to prove himself, since the team invested a second-round pick in him, the coach said: "I think there's some validity to that, but I think too you have to look where you are now and where that player is now and you have to address the big picture of everything".
