More charges likely in case of abduction, bodies found

Standing in a first-floor bedroom in a vacant home in Ashland County, the woman watched her captor sleep. In a shaky whisper, she pleaded with the police dispatcher for help.

A woman's report that she was being held captive at a home in Ashland Tuesday led to the arrest of Shawn Grate.

On the call, the woman can be heard speaking quietly as she says "I've been abducted". Grate then provided officials with information on the location of another person's remains at a nearby property in Richland County.

Another says that they heard odd noises from the house. They found the woman in the house, along with 30-year-old Shawn Michael Grate. She had last been seen at the BP Station on East Main and Union streets when she had a flat tire, the Mansfield News Journal reports.

Grate is being held on a kidnapping charge in a connection case, according to Chief Deputy Carl Richert from the Ashland County Sheriff's Office. Other charges are expected to be filed.

On the call, the woman can be heard breathing heavily and whispering answers to the dispatcher's questions. Some details, including her age and address, were redacted from the 911 recording and police haven't commented on her condition.

Grate told authorities of the third body during an interview. While processing the scene, investigators found two bodies.

In the call, she talks with the dispatcher as police attempt to find her.

Authorities say the suspect in the abduction confessed to killing a woman at a house about 20 minutes away in June.

"My son was sick, so he kept telling me that he could give him Children's Motrin, get him something to drink and just sit down and watch television for a little while our clothes keep drying", she said.
