In his Facebook post, however, Cruz tried to make his case by highlighting six key policy differences between Trump and Clinton, namely immigration and energy.
"He has been, you know, David against Goliath in his own party, against [the] other party, in the media", Beck said of Cruz in January.
He can say it's because of Clinton and her "left-wing promises" and his conscience and just loving 'Merica too much to stand idly by and not support the "freedom" that Trump is promising to bring. "My conscience tells me I must do whatever I can to stop that", he pointed out.
During the campaign, Trump accused Cruz of constant lying and cited his lack of popularity among Senate Republicans.
Trump and Cruz have had a bumpy relationship.
Cruz, who argued that Trump has liberal "New York values" at odds with conservatism, defeated Trump in Iowa, but was unable to follow up that momentum.
"Donald Trump continues to take unprecedented steps to demonstrate that he intends to appoint justices like [Antonin] Scalia, [Clarence] Thomas, and [Samuel] Alito". Then Trump turned on Cruz's family. He tweeted unflattering pictures of Cruz's wife and threatened to "spill the beans" on her (though he never hinted at what "the beans" entailed). Cruz didn't mention this in his Facebook post, presumably lumping all of these charges into the "significant areas of disagreement" that he acknowledged he has with Trump. By bowing down to a man he has attacked so harshly, Cruz significantly dilutes that brand.

Former rivals like Rubio faced a similarly hard choice, but they were all able to issue their muted, stilted endorsements with less fanfare and less waffling.
Cruz cited the possibility of Democrats taking control of the U.S. Supreme Court as a major reason why he made a decision to drop his opposition to Trump. And, yes, by the time Cruz went after Trump it was too late. He has already revised his tax plan and his infamous call to bar Muslims from entering the United States, among many other examples.
But a few hours had passed between Trump's release of the list and Cruz's statement. The pundit and syndicated radio host threw his support behind Cruz in January when the GOP nomination was still up for grabs.
"Our country is in crisis", Cruz said Friday in defending his Trump endorsement.
Trump responded to the news by saying he was "greatly honored" to have the endorsement of "a tough and brilliant opponent".
