Chinese Lies Exposed; Photographs, Documents Recovered from Spies
The Uttar Pradesh police rubbished the Chinese foreign ministry’s claim that the three spies arrested from from Rupaideeha in Bahraich were tourists who had crossed into India by mistake. “The three Chinese nationals were arrested because they were clicking photos of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) camps which are prohibited areas. The SSB also seized an Indian PAN card from them,” Brij Lal , the state’s additional director general of police, said on Thursday. ” They are remanded in judicial custody for 14 days and we are appointing a translator to help the investigators.” China on Thursday urged India to ” properly handle” the issue. Hong Lei, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson in Beijing, said the Chinese embassy in India was getting in touch with the Indian police for further information.

IPL - Kochi Clarifies Not Interested in Sourav Ganguly
The Kochi franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday denied it was in talks with former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly for a place in the team in the fourth season of the tournament. Reacting to media reports that the Kochi IPL was trying to sign up Ganguly, Mehul Shah, a majority stake owner in the franchise, told Headlines Today that there was no such move.

A disappointed Viktor Troicki retired from his match against Novak Djokovic today, allowing the world No. 3 to move into the fourth round of Australian Open 2011 without breaking a sweat. The Serbian Davis Cup teammates had played just one set which Djokovic won 6-2 when Troicki informed the umpire that he could not continue, citing a strained stomach muscle.

It was a case of big versus small today or, to be precise, Dominika Cibulkova versus the Great Dane, Caroline Wozniacki. Standing just 161 cm, Cibulkova is the shortest player on the WTA tour but she packs a big punch as Wozniacki is well aware. Cibulkova was responsible for Wozniacki’s first-round demise in Sydney last week and was hoping to repeat the dose today, but it wasn’t to be, the top seed ultimately triumphing in straight sets, 6-4 6-3.

Roger Federer’s second round match against a man who he has never beaten — Gilles Simon — lived up to its billing. It took Roger Federer five sets to win 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3. Roger Federer toyed with the Frenchman in the first two sets winning them comfortably. But then late in second set onwards, Roger had a customary concentration lapse raking up constant unforced errors and lost the next two sets, only to win in the fifth.

Former world No.2 Svetlana Kuznetsova progressed to the third round at Australian Open 2011, ousting qualifier Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 6-1 6-4 on Wednesday. The Dutch youngster struggled with her serve early on in windy conditions on Show Court 2, serving a double fault on the first point of the opening game. Another double fault during the game did not help the world No.139 as she failed to hold serve, gifting Kuznetsova a break with a long forehand.

Lleyton Hewitt and David Nalbandian turned back time on Rod Laver Arena as they recreated their extraordinary Australian Open 2005 quarterfinal, this time in the first round of Australian Open 2011. Six years and two hip replacements on from their epic five-set tussle, which finally ended in Hewitt’s favour, his last victory against Nalbandian, the burly Argentine and feisty Australian once again stood toe to toe under Rod Laver Arena’s open roof, and, as before, it proved to be anything but simple, Nalbandian eventually pulling off a phenomenal 9-7 fifth set victory.
