- Democrat Hillary Clinton's double-digit lead in last month's Quinnpiac University poll has been cut in half, according a new survey released Thursday by the polling center.
Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton remain locked in a statistical tie in the battle for Ohio's presidential election vote. In a four-way race with Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Trump is up four, as noted in the Real Clear Politics average of daily tracking polls.
This Quinnipiac poll, however, is very different from a new Suffolk University poll that has Trump up three points among North Carolinians.
North Carolina: Clinton ahead of Trump 42 percent to 38 percent, with 15 percent for Johnson.
The map includes two pure tossups: Iowa, a state where Trump campaigned last weekend, and Georgia, a normally Republican-leaning state where Trump is being hurt by his rock-bottom support among African American voters. Only 37% of North Carolina voters said they have a favorable opinion of Clinton, while a majority - 55% - said they have an unfavorable opinion. Only 33% said Trump will win.

NC: Clinton, 42; Trump 38; Johnson, 15. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 percentage points. But the latest result is a far cry from Quinnipiac's August 9 poll that found Clinton up ten points against Trump.
The Quinnipiac University poll was conducted August 29-September 7 using phone interviews with 761 likely voters in Florida, 751 likely voters in North Carolina, 775 likely voters in OH and 778 likely voters in Pennsylvania.
The Florida and North Carolina results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points, while the OH and Pennsylvania results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
