Minnesota Democrats attempt to strip Trump from ballot

Minnesota Democrats attempt to strip Trump from ballot

Is it really possible that the Minnesota Supreme Court will bump the Trump/Pence ticket off the ballot because the state Republican Party goofed up and forgot to nominate alternate presidential electors at its convention?

"Donald Trump got on our ballot fair and square, and it is outrageous that the Democrat Party would actually try to rig the election this way", Downey said.

The Minnesota constitution states electoral college delegates and their alternates must be elected at the party's convention.

State law says that electors and alternate electors must be nominated at an official state convention.

The petition says Simon should not have accepted the Republican Party's petition to get Trump on the ballot.

To finish the process, the party called an executive committee meeting to select alternative electors to join the 10 it nominated at its state convention in May.

Politico said the move follows a slight dustup in August over the Republican presidential ticket's absence from Minnesota's ballot.

Martin filed a separate petition against Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon for accepting the appointed alternates, the Star Tribune reported Thursday. He said the party had previously submitted what it had thought was the necessary paperwork a month earlier.

The state Supreme Court in the past has handled election matters expeditiously and decided them quickly.

The Star Tribune on Thursday said the challenge comes as Minnesota gears up for its early voting for the general presidential election on September 23. The Secretary of State's office said on Thursday that it does not comment on pending litigation.

Also Friday, a source close to Trump's campaign said that Mike Lukach, hired just last month as the Republican candidate's Minnesota state director, has been reassigned to another state.

In the petition, DFL Chair Ken Martin claims that the Minnesota GOP broke Minn.

The DFL Party is represented by attorneys from the Minneapolis-based Lockridge Grindall Nauen and Washington-based Perkins Coie firm, both of which represented Democrats in both the Sen.
